Palmerton Library announces upcoming events

The Palmerton Area Library has announced events for National Library Month in April.

The Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton is celebrating National Library Month in April by sponsoring many exciting events.April is "Food for Fines" month. Donate one nonperishable food item in place of each $1 fine owed. Eliminate all your late fines and feed the hungry at the same time.All donated food items will be given to the CACPAC food pantry in Palmerton.During the month of April there will be a Photography Exhibit in the gallery called "American Hands."This exhibit will feature the photography of Sally Wiener Grotta. On April 16, Grotta will present a slide presentation of her show at 6 p.m. and will be on hand to answer questions afterward.This program is free and open to all.On April 18, the library will host a Child ID program with free finger printing and information for parents about child safety from 10 to 2 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Community Partners for Kids.Also on April 18, the Friends of the Library will sponsor a bus trip to the Mercer Museum and Fonthill Castle in Doylestown.The bus will depart from George's Bus Garage on Delaware Avenue at 8:30 a.m. and return at 4 p.m.Call the library at 610-826-3424 for more information on this trip.On April 30 at 7 p.m. the library will host "An Evening of English Songs" presented by Sherry Freund and friends. This concert is open to all.On Fridays in April the library will once again sponsor Bedtime Math programs for kids in PreK through fifth gradeEach evening will feature fun math activities and games plus snacks.The activities are free but the parents must call the library to register each child since the programs are limited to 15 each Friday.Computer Classes for Seniors will begin on the first Thursday in April and continue for three months.Classes will start with the beginner sessions and continue with office and excel and social media and mobile devices. All classes meet at the library from 5 to 7 p.m.Call the library for more information about specific classes and dates.The library is sponsoring its annual bookmark contest for kids in preschool through grade 6.Stop in the library to pick up the form. Entries are due April 8. The book marks will be judged in three age categories.The winning bookmarks will be printed and handed out at the library check out desk throughout the year.Check out the library website at
