Kidder questioned on response teams
In February, Nicole Plavin addressed the Kidder Township supervisors regarding her brother, Joseph Plavin, a junior firefighter who was injured in the line of duty on Feb. 2.
According to Plavin, her brother is still recuperating at home."Joseph has not returned to school, the school is tutoring him at home," she told the board. "I want to thank everyone who has heard his story and contacted us; we are grateful for the outpouring of support."The Plavin family still has questions for the board regarding the fact that Lake Harmony volunteer fire company is the only fire company in Kidder Township that does not run a quick response team."Both Albrightsville and Kidder fire companies have quick response teams made up of EMTs. If someone in this meeting were to have a heart attack, no one from the Lake Harmony fire house could respond. There would be a delay in the response time," Plavin said.At February's meeting the board had asked the Plavin family to provide documentation regarding the incident in which Joseph was injured. Plavin said they have complied with the board's request and were hoping get some feedback. Also during the meeting the board indicated that they expect to receive the townships engineer's report regarding the storm water run-off in Lake Harmony."Once we receive the report we will have a public meeting to bring the residents up to speed," Chairman Robert Lengle said. "We expect to have the engineer's recommendations by next month's meeting."Raylene Eckley and Nancy Shields of Schoolhouse Central Inc. addressed the board regarding their plans for the old schoolhouse located adjacent to the Albrightsville Firehouse. The schoolhouse will be used for community activities including Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts meetings. The group is also planning an after-school program. The board of supervisors approved a bid of $8,825 for repairs and improvements to the schoolhouse.Kidder Volunteer Fire Company Chief John Devine addressed the board regarding the 911 addressing. Devine cited a recent call when they were unable to determine quickly what location they were to respond to."We are basically done," township manager Lisa Klem said. "We had to make a few changes and we are now waiting for a final release date from Harrisburg so we can send out letters notifying people of their new addresses and street names."The board also had a request form Lake Harmony Estates to consider a pedestrian and golf cart crossing in the township. The discussion was tabled to give Klem more time to collect information about the request. The board cited safety and monetary concerns regarding the request. The board approved a lot line revision and final plan, with minor provisions, which will complete the transfer of three parcels of land from Blue Ridge Real Estate to Kidder Township. The parcels, which are adjacent to the township building, are for use exclusively as a parking lot for the township building.Lastly, the board accepted the resignation of Environmental Advisory Council member Hank George. The supervisors noted George's years of dedication to the board. Anyone interested in filling the open position with the EAC may send a letter of intent to the township.
