Tamaqua students take third place

Four students from the Tamaqua Elementary schools were awarded third place in the Schuylkill County STEM Design Challenge on March 11. The challenge was for the students to build something, entirely out of K'Nex pieces that would be able to move a pingpong ball a minimum of 4 feet. The students began meeting in December and developed a design and theme. They chose the theme "STEAMing Through Time," based on the concepts of science, technology, engineering, art and math. Using blueprints they created, the team had two hours to build their design for the challenge competition. They also had to provide a two-minute presentation on their design. Members of the Tamaqua team include, from left, teacher Sam Yachera and students Cian McLaughlin, Nelson Bensinger, Jonathan Ulicny and Alexxa Kowalski.
