Carbon County approves communications tower

A corporate data communications tower got the green light from Carbon County Planning Commission.

During the board's monthly meeting on Tuesday, Trinita Hardy of Hardy Consulting Inc. discussed the proposed construction of a Vigilant Communication Complex consisting of a 140-foot-tall monopole communications tower and a 12-by-365.63-foot access road at the intersection of Old Stage and Meckesville roads in Penn Forest Township. The owner of the property is Mount Pocahontas Property Owners Association.Hardy said the main purpose of the tower is to transmit corporate data, but can handle up to two additional communications options, such as a wireless company signal or a county 911 communications signal, if needed.Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said the total acreage for the project would be 0.31 acres. He said through his review that the plan, as submitted, "conforms to preliminary/final plan requirements of Penn Forest Land Subdivision and Development Ordinance."Meixell noted there are two items that must be addressed before the project is fully approved. They include receiving a conditional use permit by the Penn Forest board of supervisors to allow the tower to be built on land zoned R-2 low-density residential; as well as revise the plan sheets and correct the name of the road to Old Stage Road.He then recommended conditional plan approval, which was approved by the planning commission. The commission also recommended approval of two other plans. They include:• Joseph D. Yannone Jr. received conditional plan approval for a proposed lot line revision at a previously approved Princeton Pines subdivision in Palmerton. The plans call for combining lots 16 and 17 to create a 0.9176-acre lot.• Blue Ridge Real Estate Company and Kidder Township received plan approval for a proposed subdivision/lot line revision at the Kidder Township Municipal Building, Lake Harmony Road, Kidder Township. The plans call for subdividing 1.12 acres of land from the 182 acres owned by Blue Ridge and combining it with two lots owned by Kidder Township to create a 2.81-acre lot.
