Elderly woman hurt in 248 crash

An elderly Palmerton woman was treated for injuries after she was involved in a one-car crash Monday afternoon.

Borough Police Chief Randy Smith said Anna Schmidtberg, 80, of 697 First St. Palmerton, was traveling west on Route 248 just before 5 p.m. when she attempted to exit into Palmerton and lost control of her 2001 Ford Taurus on the loose gravel.Smith said the vehicle struck a guardrail on the right side, and came to rest against the left guardrail.Schmidtberg complained of chest and knee pain, and was transported to Palmerton Hospital for treatment, he said.The vehicle suffered disabling front and rear end damage, Smith said.Palmerton Police were assisted at the scene by the Palmerton Fire Department, Palmerton Ambulance, Lehighton State Police, and East Penn Township Police Department.
