Closing arguments in murder of JT woman

Closing arguments have been heard in the case of Jennifer Brown, who was slain in November 2012 in her apartment in Qatar.

On Sunday in Doha court, the lawyer of the Kenyan security guard, who admitted he killed Brown, 40, of Jim Thorpe, said that the security guard "snapped" during a verbal altercation, which then grew physical, Doha News reported. The guard has never been identified to the media. The defendant's lawyer said that the guard "did not intend to kill Brown," and urged for the manslaughter charge instead of murder. If convicted of manslaughter, the guard would face a maximum of 10 years in prison instead of facing life in prison, which is what Brown's family urged for in January when asked how the court should rule. The prosecutor in the case did not make a closing argument, Doha News reported.Brown moved to Qatar in September 2012 after taking a teaching position at the Al Wakra Campus of English Modern School. On Nov. 14, 2012, just two months after arriving in Qatar, school officials found her body in the company apartment where she lived.A few days later police arrested the Kenyan security guard, who reportedly confessed to killing Brown and took police to the murder weapon, which he had hidden on the apartment roof.Over the past two years, there have been numerous delays in the guard's trial, including lawyers quitting, scheduling confusion and a number of key witnesses failing to report to testify.Robert Brown, Jennifer's father, has told the Times News in the past that the delays in the court system and getting justice for their daughter have caused little to no closure for the family. The judge in the case is expected to deliver the verdict on April 14.
