Reading & Northern wins Railroad of the Year honor

Railway Age magazine has named Reading & Northern Railroad its 2015 Regional Railroad of the Year.

Reading & Northern is the first railroad to ever win this honor three times, having also received the award in 2002 and 2011."Adaptability and flexibility have served Reading & Northern well through three decades, as 'The Road of Anthracite' not only adjusts to new markets and traffic flows but anticipates them, indeed seeking out those shifts and changes," says Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono."Reading & Northern continues to stand out among its peers," said Railway Age Managing Editor Douglas John Bowen. "It's taken home our Railway Age Regional Railroad award three times now for good reason: Not only does it keep going and growing, but it keeps adapting and innovating, in good economic times and bad. Its corporate culture insists on doing better, on not being willing to just settle."We also find an attitude, an eagerness, that's uncommon beyond just the rail industry an eagerness to see a larger picture that rail fits into," Bowen said.Andy Muller Jr., CEO and owner of the Reading & Northern says, "On behalf of the employees of the Reading & Northern, I want to thank Railway Age for recognizing us for our hard work, dedication to our customers and communities and our commitment to remaining true to our entrepreneurial foundations. We all work hard to do the best job we can and it is gratifying to be recognized for our efforts."Reading & Northern Railroad, with its corporate headquarters in Port Clinton, is a privately held railroad company serving over 50 customers in nine eastern Pennsylvania counties, including Carbon and Schuylkill.
