Weather forecasters hit their predictions right on the nose as 7 inches of snow blanketed the area, shutting schools and causing motoring headaches.

The snow piled on top of 8 inches of unmelted snow that had fallen last week and didn't melt because of bitter cold temperatures. Parking spaces became fewer as residents shoveled out their cars and enlarged piles of snow that already existed.Although there were many reports of cars sliding off the road or getting stuck on guard rails, there were no major crashes.
