Reading man sentenced in drug distribution case

The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that a 30-year-old Reading man was sentenced to 66 months in prison this week by U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani in Scranton for participating in a conspiracy to distribute heroin, cocaine and other drugs in the Monroe-Berks County area.

Luis Linarez previously pleaded guilty to conspiring with others between 2010 and 2013 to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine, more than 100 grams of heroin, and oxycodone.Linarez was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2013, as a result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office and Berks County detectives.Judge Mariani also ordered Linarez to serve four years on probation following his prison sentence. Linarez must also pay a $100 special assessment.The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Francis P. Sempa.
