Gregory L. Gilroy, 48, was charged by borough officer Trevor D. Flexer with simple assault and harassment after the Nov. 4, 2014, incident.According to an affidavit of probable cause, Flexer was dispatched to 1121 Mauch Road at 2:16 p.m. Nov. 4. The Carbon County communications center dispatchers said they could hear screaming in the background after they received an open call from that address. The call was then disconnected.Flexer was met by Gilroy, who told him that he had begun dating a woman named Melanie Moore years ago. He said that that day, she had shown up at his apartment and banged on the door so hard he said he thought she would break the window. He said she pushed her way inside when he opened the door and started screaming and slapping him.He said when he tried to push her out of the apartment, she tried to hit his genitals.Flexer wrote that he did not see any marks on Gilroy. Gilroy told Flexer he screamed for help from his neighbors, but no one responded. He said he called 911, but didn't think he had hit the "send" button. He told Moore he was calling police, but she kept screaming at him. Gilroy said she left the apartment after a few minutes. At 1:36 p.m. Nov. 6, Flexer met with Moore, who wanted photographs taken of her injuries, at the police station.Moore had a black-and-blue right eye and bruises on her left arm and shoulder. A trooper photographed the bruises.Moore told Flexer that she had gotten a text message from Gilroy on Nov. 4 asking her to come to his house. They spoke on the phone for 1 1/2 hours, then she arrived at his apartment. She said they sat and talked for a while, then she went into the bathroom. She told Flexer that as she walked to the bathroom that Gilroy asked her to have intimate relations with him, and that she refused. She said Gilroy grabbed her by her hair as she came out of the bathroom and began slamming her head into a door frame or cabinet, and threw her belongings outside. Then, she said, he dragged her outside onto the landing, pushed her to the ground and held her there as he screamed at her.She said she went home, where her son saw the bruises, and then to a hospital on the morning of Nov. 6 and had a CT scan done.On Nov. 20, Moore came to the station with her son. Both provided written statements.Gilroy came to the station on Dec. 12, waived his Miranda rights, and told Flexer he had asked Moore several times to leave his house. He put her belongings outside, and Moore asked where they were when she came out of the bathroom. She opened the door and had one foot outside when he tried to push her out and close the door. She grabbed his shirt and pulled him toward her and he fell on top of her, with his shoulder landing on her face. Gilroy told Flexer he never touched her while she was in the apartment.Moore, 50, of New Philadelphia, was charged with defiant trespass and harassment.
