Prison term for gun law charge

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a state prison term Monday in the county court after pleading guilty to a gun law charge.

He entered a plea before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Travis Allen Walck, 24, of Summit Hill, was sentenced to serve one to two years in a state correctional institution on a charge of firearms not to be carried without a license.Walck was arrested by state police at Lehighton after troopers were dispatched to 217 Centre St., Parryville, on July 23, 2014. Glenn Stuckley told troopers that his Raven nickel-plated .25-caliber pistol was stolen from his residence. He said a friend, Walck, was at the residence and he believed he had taken the gun.Troopers later found Walck and he admitted taking the pistol.Walck admitted to a drug addiction problem and recently served a 30 days to one year prison term on other criminal charges.Walck told Nanovic, "I have a big drug problem. I'm trying to take care of it for years." He said he has been a heroin addict for the past six years.Walck said he went through the Salvation Army inpatient program but relapsed. Nanovic said that was discouraging because there are not many people who go back on drugs after completing the program, which he said is highly successful.Nanovic said the prison term would be followed by three years of probation. He also ordered Walck to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, supply a DNA sample, and pay restitution of $150 to the victim. He was given credit for 66 days already spent in prison on the charge. The sentence runs concurrent with the prior prison term he currently serving.
