Police seize cash, gambling machines, from social clubs

State police seized electronic gambling machines and cash from three area fire club social halls, authorities said.

No charges have been filed and authorities said the investigation is ongoing, according to a news release issued Monday.State police said the raid happened Wednesday night at three area fire social clubs: Hecktown Volunteer Fire Company in Lower Nazareth Township, Vigilance Hose Company in Nazareth, and East Lawn Volunteer Fire Company Social Club in Upper Nazareth Township.State police did not detail how much cash or the devices seized during the raids. The gambling machines were found at all three locations, said Sgt. Michael T. Carroll, district commander of the state police Liquor Control Enforcement.Authorities said the raids were conducted "to address allegations of illegal gambling."Vigilance Hose Company president Troy Keenhold said Monday he was notified of the raid when he was called at home. He said poker machines and a "small amount of cash" were seized by authorities.Keenhold declined to comment when he was asked if the gambling machines provided a cash payout to players at the social club.Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. declined to comment Monday."The Vigilance Hose is a private organization within the borough," Strye said in an email."I defer all questions to their officers."Distributed by Tribune Content Agency LLC
