Slatington man charged with raping mentally disabled woman

A Lehigh County man has been charged with raping a mentally disabled woman earlier this year in Slatington.

David Esterly, 59, of the 200 block of East Church Street in Slatington, faces charges of rape of a mentally disabled woman, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, sexual assault, and indecent assault.

Esterly was arraigned Monday by District Judge Rod Beck of Slatington, and sent to Lehigh County Jail under $30,000 bail.

He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Jan. 5 in the Lehigh County Courthouse.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Detective Kevin Smith of the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and Detective Tim Wagner of the borough police department:

Smith and Wanger interviewed the victim, an adult female, at the Slatington Police Department.

During the interview, the victim said that Esterly engaged in sexual intercourse with her against her will.

As a result, Smith and Wagner conducted an interview with Esterly at the Slatington Police Department.

During the interview, police said Esterly confessed.
