Tamaqua woman charged with felony after repeated shoplifting

A Tamaqua woman spent some time in the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville, after a retail theft at the Dollar General Store, 1213 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.

Store employees called police at 12:16 p.m. on Dec. 16 to report a woman in the store actively involved in shoplifting.The woman was described as in her thirties, blonde, wearing a pink hooded jacket and gray sweat pants.When officers arrived, they were directed to the rear of the store, where they found Shannon Fredericks, 34, of Spruce Street, Tamaqua, matching the description provided. As the officer spoke with Fredericks, the store manager identified her as the thief, saying the thief had been placing items in a purple bag in a cart in the next aisle. Fredericks denied stealing, saying the bag wasn't hers, but a friend's. The friend disagreed, saying the bag belonged to Fredericks.Store video was reviewed, showing Fredericks placing items in the purple bag. The items included a canning jar, a frozen Snackeez, a lollipop rattle, and a Disney pullover, valued at $17.31.Due to Fredericks' record for shoplifting, she was charged with felony counts of retail theft and arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer. Bail was set at $10,000 straight, earning her a trip to the county prison.
