Business gets tax refund

A taxing snafu on the county level has resulted in the Lehighton School District having to refund $3,509.57 to Northland Development Corporation.

Solicitor William Schwab said a Grant Homes filed a tax assessment appeal for its development along Route 902, resulting in the court ordered refund."They have 45 lots but only about 20 are accessible by road," Schwab said."The rest are just on paper. The assessment office assessed the lots that don't have road access the same as the lots that did have access. Grant Homes appealed it and the lots without access were reduced."Schwab said the district is still getting about $12,000 in tax revenue for the empty lots.
