Mother, son cited in drug overdose

A Coaldale mother and son have both been cited following a drug overdose at their home on Monday.

Coaldale Police were dispatched to 67 Second St. at 5:41 p.m. for a woman in cardiac arrest.Once at the home, where several volunteer firefighters had also responded, the woman was identified as Peggy Hill, 49.Hill was breathing but had a very weak pulse.Emergency medical personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance and Lehighton ALS arrived and began treating Hill for a possible overdose of heroin.She responded to the treatment, opened her eyes and was able to tell police she had taken heroin provided by her son, Anthony Hill, 26.Anthony was also in the home at the time.Before his mother was treated by ambulance personnel, he told police she had “probably taken heroin and Fentanyl.”Peggy Hill was transported to St. Luke's Hospital-Miners Campus in Coaldale and police conducted a search of the home after being granted permission by Ronald Hill, Peggy's husband and Anthony's father.A search of the bedroom found steel wool, bloody handkerchiefs, a black scale, four syringes, cotton swabs, empty wax paper bags with residue inside, spoons, a Fentanyl pack with pink powder residue, clear bags with pink powder, a wax paper bag with a brown powder (heroin) and crushed Percocet tablets.Police then went to the hospital where Peggy and Anthony were read their Miranda rights.Under questioning, Peggy Hill repeated that her son gave her a syringe filled with heroin.She used it, handed him the syringe and then couldn't remember what happened next.The son said his mother took the drugs all on her own. Mother and son were both charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
