St. Joseph prepares for its second Polar Plunge

St. Joseph Regional Academy will host its second annual "Be Cool for Our School" Polar Plunge on Jan. 24 at Mauch Chunk Lake in Jim Thorpe.

Registration is $35 and begins at 9:30 a.m. The first plunge starts at 11 a.m. All proceeds go toward operating costs for the school.The event will feature Amanda Salovay, the principal of St. Joseph's, as one of the "premier plungers." Salovay has promised to plunge if students collect enough pledges to meet their fundraising goal of $10,000.She will plunge at various levels: up to the ankles for $1,000, up to the knees for $5,000, up to the waist for $10,000, and all in for over $10,000.St. Joseph Regional Academy, located on Sixth Street in Jim Thorpe, is a Pre-K-8 school dedicated to providing a strong educational program that teaches Christian values and emphasizes academic excellence and community service.To preregister or obtain information, visit
