Kidder Township Police open their doors to Cub Scouts

Cub Scout Pack 597 out of Albrightsville met with Kidder Township Police Department on Dec. 11 to fulfill a requirement to move up in rank.

The Bears and Tigers visited the police station in Kidder Township to learn about the interworkings of the police department and police officers. The boys were accompanied by den leaders Sharon Kukal and John O'Conner."Personally, it is always great when we can get together with youth and let them see what our day-to-day operations are like," said 12-year police veteran Detective Neil Yurchak. "We want them to know that they have a friend in us; we don't want them to be afraid."It is particularly important to Yurchak that young children develop trust with police officers. Yurchak's hope was to encourage the Cub Scouts to become interested in police work."If any of the boys develop an interest in police work after their visit, that's great," Yurchak concluded.

Judy Dolgos-Kramer/Special to the Times News Detective Neil Yurchak explains how the police use "spike strips" to end high speed car chases to David Sherrill and Peter Almeida, both 8-year-old Tigers.
