Remember the past

Thank you to all our local, caring veterans. Thank you for the fine Pearl Harbor Day service in Lehighton on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014, that terribly infamous day! Thank you, Mr. Ron Gower, for your fine article of history lessons, in tonight's Times News, Page 10.

I've been attending the Pearl Harbor services for a few years now, sorry to say I missed them in prior years, and I don't know why. I do know there are fewer and fewer people attending, and usually not young people.I was especially disappointed that our Times News placed the announcement of the service in the lower right corner of Page 10, and I almost never even saw it. For those of us who weren't looking for it, why would anyone look there for such an important announcement? As the old saying goes, "those who cannot (or will not) remember the past are condemned to repeat it."Our modern teachings are not teaching our past, America's great and vibrant historical beginnings and the terrible battles our forefathers fought to bring America to a glorious life. Are we allowing her to now die? All these terrible, recent happenings allowed because of our failure to keep alive our grand history?People, wake up, open your eyes to more than that electronic gadget in the palm of your hands lest you awaken to the fact that your great nation has died!Fearfully,Ruthann SchlechtLehighton
