Kidder FD taken off crash calls

By JUDY DOLGOS-KRAMERTN Correspondent

editor@tnonline.comProblems related to mismanagement at the Kidder Volunteer Fire Company were a hot topic of discussion at the Kidder Township Supervisors meeting Thursday.Last month when the problems were discovered, the new management of the fire company requested that the township supervisors give them six months to fix the problems and to straighten out any issues related to the previous chief. In November, due to their concerns with Kidder's past performance, the supervisors redistricted the commercial corridor along Route 940, making Lake Harmony first responder.According to Robert Hill, president of Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company, in the past month Lake Harmony Chief Ralph Lennon reissued new run cards, virtually removing Kidder Township from every accident call within the township."The changes that have been made jeopardize public safety as well as firefighter safety. As the run cards now stand, we have been taken off of all accident with injuries on all roadways in the township in his district, unless it is a confirmed entrapment."We run an all EMT/firefighter station and provide QRS (quick response service). Taking us off of these accidents jeopardizes patient care and certainly delays immediate patient contact," Kidder Fire Chief John Devine wrote in a letter to the supervisors. In response, township manager Lisa Klem requested a motion from the supervisors placing Kidder Township Volunteer Fire Company on six months' probation "to give them time to straighten out their issues."Klem also requested that the township contact the Carbon County Communications Center to confirm that all three of the township's fire companies are toned out on all calls. When asked by a resident if the probation period could end in the elimination of the Kidder fire company, supervisor Larry Polansky said, "Everything is on the table at this time."Polansky refused to go into any details at this time regarding the "issues" that led to the probation."These are not for general information at this time. We have met with the fire company, but not in a public meeting," Polansky said.He added, "The board feels strongly that Kidder Fire Company should be fully supported.""Fire companies are private entities," solicitor Dan Miscavige said to the residents."They are private corporations. It is not our place to disclose any information."
