Four teens killed in Lower Towamensing crash; police release details

Four teenagers were killed Friday night when their car strayed into the oncoming lane of Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township and hit another car, injuring its occupants, driver Stacy Peddigree, 18, of Lehighton and passenger Tim Shiner, 22, of Palmerton.

State police at Lehighton say speed was a factor in the horrific crash.At 8:25 p.m., a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 17-year-old boy and carrying a 13-year-old girl and two 16-year-old boys was traveling in the westbound lane. The car went into the eastbound lane, hitting a 1996 Buick Skylark driven by Peddigree, and then overturned into a tree and caught fire, police said. The driver of the Cavalier was thrown from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.Police did not release details about the other victims.The Buick also overturned and caught fire, but both Peddigree and Shiner were able to get out of the car.The state police Crash Accident Reconstruction Specialist unit is assisting with the investigation.Police were assisted at the scene by ambulance crews from Palmerton, Lehighton and Mahoning Township, and the Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company.
