Several killed in Lower Towamensing crash

A fiery crash on Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township, about a mile from Palmerton High School, has resulted in the deaths of several people.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that as many as three - possibly four - people were killed.

Tweets indicated the victims were young, but that has not been confirmed.

A state police reconstruction was on the scene at presstime.

Police expected Dairy Road to be closed most of the night. Dairy Road is a narrow, two-lane street.

The crash happened at about 8:30 just east of the intersection with Fireline Road near the Fireline Hotel.

According to reports from the scene, one of the vehicles involved was cut in half, with the two sections being about 100 feet apart.

The other vehicle was on its roof.

It was reported a resident in the area pulled one victim from the burning wreckage but it was too late to save the person.

Both vehicles caught fire.

While rescue personnel were still at the scene, family members began arriving.

Responding were the Aquashicola Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance, Palmerton Ambulance, and fire police.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the crash.
