Palmerton man given probation for assault

A Carbon County man was placed on probation on Tuesday afternoon on a charge of simple assault, which he previously pleaded guilty.

Ricky Elton Stevens Jr., 31, of Palmerton, was placed on probation for a year by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Stevens was arrested by Palmerton police on June 14, 2012, for an incident outside the Palmerton Hotel on Delaware Avenue.A fight was in progress when police arrived. Officers learned through their investigation that Stevens struck Dylan Tyahla in the face at least three times.Nanovic noted that the police report indicated Tyahla suffered serious dental-type injuries which the defendant will be responsible to pay medical bills.Stevens told Nanovic he was highly intoxicated at the time of the incident.In addition to the jail term Nanovic ordered Stevens to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay restitution to Tyahla of $4,211 for medical bills, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
