Woman injured in Nesquehoning crash

A woman was seriously injured Thursday morning after being involved in a crash along Route 93 in Nesquehoning.

The crash occurred at 8:30 a.m. about a half mile north of Route 209. According to police the woman was traveling south at a high rate of speed passing while rounding a curve in a non-passing zone. Police said as she entered the northbound lanes she left the roadway striking the guardrails.

At that time a U. S. Mail truck was traveling north and when the driver of the mail truck spotted the SUV coming at him he swerved to the left to avoid a head-on collision. The SUV crossed back across the roadway where she did strike the truck headon.

The woman was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics and transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma Center in Allentown. The driver of the truck was not injured. Route 93 is closed to traffic.
