Philly area police officer hit by car at crash scene

CHELTENHAM, Pa. (AP) - A suburban Philadelphia police officer is hospitalized after a passing vehicle spun on ice and struck him as he placed road flares at an accident scene.

Cheltenham Township police say Officer Phil Degliomini was hit and thrown to the side of the road around 6:30 a.m. Thursday on Washington Lane in the township's Wyncote section.

Police say the 50-year-old Degliomini sustained multiple internal injuries. He is listed in stable condition at Abington Memorial Hospital's trauma center.

Degliomini has been with the Cheltenham Township Police Department for 7 years. He previously spent 13 years in the Philadelphia Police Department.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that struck Degliomini remained at the scene and is cooperating.

The crash is under investigation.
