Tamaqua man to serve up to 21 years in rape of girl, 12

A Tamaqua man will serve up to 21 years behind bars for raping a 12-year-old girl last year.

President Judge William Baldwin on Monday sentenced Angel Anthony "Sketch" Resto, 22, to the state prison time.Resto will serve 10 to 20 years on the rape charge, and an additional six to 12 months on a charge of corruption of minors.Baldwin also sentenced him to six to 12 years for unlawful contact, six to 12 months for indecent assault, and three to six months for indecent exposure, all to be served at the same time as the rape sentence.Upon completion of his sentence, Resto will be subject to lifelong Megan's Law restrictions and requirements.Baldwin gave Resto credit for the 257 days he's already served.A jury of five women and seven men in August convicted Resto after deliberating for less than an hour. The crimes surfaced in May 2013 when the child's mother contacted police after reading posts on a social media site that revealed the child was sexually active. She learned from the child that Resto had been having sexual relations with her in January 2013.At the trial, the child's friend, who was in the house at the time of the incident, testified that Resto came to the house and took the child into a bedroom. After Resto left and the child came out of the bedroom, the friend noticed there was blood on the mattress.Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods arrested Resto after the child's mother contacted him.Resto denied the accusations, but DNA evidence from the fluid on the mattress indicated it was he who left it there.
