Flag programThe Summit Hill Lions Club is continuing its American flag program.During the good weather months, the flag will fly in Ludlow Park in memory or honor of veterans from the community.During the week of Oct. 6, the flag will fly in memory of the late Rev. Richard Campo, who served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, having had two tours of duty in Vietnam.After his military service, he entered the seminary and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Allentown on June 8, 1985. Rev. Campo passed away on Nov. 17, 2008.Family members of veterans, or veterans themselves, can request to have the flag flown in honor or memory of any town veteran. For more information, contact Joseph O'Gurek at 570-645-5171.Fall tree plantingsThe Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting its fall tree plantings on Oct. 25 and 26.Anyone interested in sponsoring a tree to be planted along the streets or in memory or in honor of someone may call John Kupec at 570-645-9644 or Lou Vermillion at 645-9772 for information.Trees will be ordered in mid October.Volunteers to help plant, water and clean up are always welcome as well as any contributions to the Shade Tree Commission's efforts.LansfordMedicare enrollment assistanceThe Panther Valley Public Library, located at 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, will be assisting seniors during open enrollment for Medicare part C & D every Wednesday beginning Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 during regular library hours. This service is available by appointment.Counselors will assist consumers in finding a drug plan or a Medicare Part C plan.Call the library to set up an appointment date and time at 570-645-3780.Preschool story hourThe Panther Valley Public Library offers a free, preschool story hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday.Stories, snacks and activities are provided for the children.
