Fantastic fashion show

The Western Pocono Lioness Club held its 18th annual Fashion Show Sunday, with the theme of celebrating the club's 35th birthday.Lioness Carol Heppa said it was a wonderful afternoon and everyone had a great time. She said the fashions were beautiful and the models did a fantastic job, as did all the volunteers.Legion meetsThe American Legion Post 927 Home Association is slated to meet tonight at 7:30 at the Post Home in Gilbert.The Legion itself will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.Band parentsPleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school band room.Collections beginThe Pleasant Valley Intermediate School PTO will begin its collection contest campaign Thursday, which will run through Oct. 31. When the Methodist church in McIlhaney disbanded, the church body gave its building to the PVEN.The roster of families has grown and multiplied. The service center currently needs food staples including cereal, soups, peanut butter and jelly, canned meats or fish, and rice.Winter is just around the corner, so the PVEN Clothing Bank also needs men's, boys', girls', and women's coats and jackets. School uniforms are always in demand. Also needed are new or gently used blankets, towels and sheet sets.Donations are accepted from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays and at other times by appointment.The board of directors for PVEN will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.Pet blessingZion Lutheran will hold its pet blessing at 1 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.
