Schuylkill County swears in new officials

The newly appointed Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts and Recorder of Deeds were sworn in Friday afternoon.

Ann Dudish was sworn in as recorder; Thomas J. Campion Jr. was sworn in as Clerk of Courts. Both live in Pottsville.Appointed by Gov. Tom Corbett, each will serve until the 2015 General Election. Newly-elected officers will be sworn in January 2016.Dudish, a Republican, is the widow of former Recorder of Deeds A. Matthew Dudish, who died on June 26 of complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He had served in the office since 1999.She has held a variety of financial controller positions over the past 30 years and most recently served as controller for the Anthracite Abstract Company and Murphy Jewelers.Campion, a Democrat, replaces Stephen M. Lukach Jr. as Clerk of Courts. Lukach, of Rush Township, retired in April under a cloud of suspicion after numerous financial irregularities were uncovered by Controller Christy Joy's office. No charges have been filed against Lukach, who had held the office for 27 years.Campion is a lawyer at Lipkin, Marshall, Bohorad & Thornburg. Campion served as a Schuylkill County assistant district attorney and is a certified public accountantFirst Deputy Recorder of Deeds Marcia Schultz and First Deputy Clerk of Courts Paul Steffanic had held down their respective forts until new officers could be sworn in.Dudish and Campion were sworn in by Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin and President Judge William Baldwin, respectively. Judge John Domalakes also sat on the panel for the ceremony.Baldwin praised the performance of both Schultz and Steffanic."They've done an outstanding job, keeping the offices running under difficult circumstances," he said.
