Lehighton Council focuses on street repairs

Are several of Lehighton's streets in need of repair?

Councilman Scott Rehrig believes so, and took a portion of Monday's borough council meeting to address the condition of several streets in the borough."Some of our streets are bad and need to be fixed," Rehrig said.Borough engineer Bruce Steigerwalt added that there are many streets in the borough that haven't had anything done to them in some time. After the meeting, borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the borough's engineer is drafting the plans and specifications for Stedman Avenue from Second to Third Avenue.Beckett said the project is estimated at $90,000, of which about $34,000 will be spent to upgrade the eight ADA ramps. She said the borough has an ongoing list of streets to be paved when funds become available, such as North Seventh, from Mahoning to Coal; Cypress, from 11th to 12th; South Seventh Street, from Iron to Mahoning; 11th Street, from Mahoning to Hamilton; and 11th Street, from Hamilton to Cypress.Additionally, Beckett said Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard is in need of repairs and reconstruction in some areas."Council had been presented with the list of streets in May and voted to move forward with Stedman and ADA ramp upgrades in June," she said. "Council has also emphasized the need for repairs to all alleys in the borough."
