Bears, Fillies grab volleyball victories

Pleasant Valley and Marian scored wins on the volleyball court in local sports action on Wednesday.

VOLLEYBALLPleasant Valley-ES NorthPleasant Valley defeated Eastern Pennsylvania Conference foe East Stroudsburg North in three sets, 25-10, 25-16 and 25-7.Bridget Lozier led the Bears (12 -7 & 6-4) with 13 kills and three blocks, while setters Kiersten Griesback and Alexis Richey each had two aces and dished out 10 assists. Sara Kron and Veronica Roberts chipped in four kills each.Kalli Walling had 10 digs and five aces.The win also gave the program its 400th win.Marian-NativityMarian defeated Nativity in a non-league match, 25-18, 25-14, 25-16.Alex Stroia of Marian had nine kills and 15 digs in the battle of perennial District 11 A powers.Abby O'Donnell conributed four digs and 26 assists, and Maureen Kloap had nine digs of her own.BOYS SOCCERSaucon Valley-PalmertonPalmerton fell to Saucon Valley in a Colonial League match, 6-0.Zach Reichard, Joe Schuyler (2), Pat Cyphers, Noah Thompson, and Cyril Doherty all scored Panther goals.Reichard, Schuyler, Thompson, and Khoa Nguyen contributed assists in the victory.Despite the loss, Palmerton goalkeeper Rich Roselli had 10 saves.Pine Grove-LehightonLehighton was impressive in a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.Joe Marks was the man of the match for the Indians, as he recorded a goal in each half of play. Zach Christoff was responsible for Lehighton's other goal.Frank Bokan contributed an assist in the victory, as Lehighton accumulated 12 shots on goal in the match.Pottsville-TamaquaPottsville defeated Tamaqua in a Schuylkill League contest, 2-1.All of the scoring was done in the first half. Jake Dicello scored first for Pottsville on a penalty kick. Tyler Wright scored next thanks to a Shea Golden assist.Tamaqua's Roberto Borrero brought Tamaqua within a goal later in the first half. However, Borrero was unable to cash in on a penalty kick just one minute after his goal, which would have tied up the game.The Raiders dominated time of possession, but committed 20 fouls in the contest, as Pottsville held on for the win.Nativity-WeatherlyNativity defeated Weatherly in a Schuylkill League clash, 4-0.Jacob Parobek, Richardo Choopla, and Ignocio Martinez all scored for Nativity in the first half. Jessica Olewine added the Lady Bulldogs third goal late in the second half.Annie McIntyre made five saves in the win.GOLFSchuylkill Team ChampionshipPottsville's Rachel Brahler shot the second lowest overall individual score with a 78 to help Pottsville win the Schuylkill League Team Championship at Blue Mountain Golf Course in Fredericksburg.The Crimson Tide finished with a 329, followed by Blue Mountain with a 334, Mahanoy Area with a 349 and Marian with a 355.Albert McFadden had the best score for the Colts with a 85, Mike Latoff had an 87, Jarod Paisley 88, Tim Dando 95, Nick Kurzinsky 96 and Jake Dembinski 107.
