Pink light walk

Tamaqua's Second Annual Pink Light Walk will be held on Oct. 4 and will follow the same walking route as the 2013 event. The walk is being held to help raise awareness of breast cancer and is being coordinated by Rachael Paisley, ambassador to Girl Scout Troop 31211.Walkers will begin at the Bungalow Park Pavilion at 5 p.m., then proceed to Broad Street, ending at Depot Square Park. pinkribbons101@gmail.com.Fall cleanupSchuylkill County residents will have the opportunity to dispose of old tires, appliances, bulk items and electronics during the annual fall cleanup campaign, scheduled locally for next week.Electronics, tires, appliances and bulky items may be dropped off at the Tamaqua Transfer Station from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday. Some fees and restrictions will apply.The Great Pennsylvania Fall/SKIP Clean Up campaign is scheduled for Saturday. Volunteers will meet at the M and T parking lot, Broad and Center streets. Residents and business owners may lend a hand by cleaning their respective sidewalks and properties that day.Garbage bags, safety vests, gloves and complimentary beverages will be provided. Trash bags must then be placed beside a state highway for collection purposes. Trash may also be disposed of in a dumpster located at the rear of the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Peter and Paul and St. Jerome Catholic churches in Tamaqua has led to a few changes in the Mass schedules at both churches, as well as a name change for St. Jerome's.Now known as the Parish of St. John XXIII, Masses will continue to be held at both churches.At St. John XXIII (formerly St. Jerome's), weekend Masses are held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays and at 11 a.m. on Sundays. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Saturdays.Masses at SS. Peter and Paul are held at 8 and 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
