Not everyone plans to uprade to iPhone6

Pre-orders for Apple's new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus began late last week, but a lot of locals said they won't be standing in line when the newest technology hits retail stores on Friday.

Unveiled during a press event on Sept. 9, both phones come with larger screens and, according to Apple, better cameras, faster processors and longer battery life."I'd rather stay with my Galaxy," said Crystal Cisterna, responding to a post on the Times News Facebook page. "I never had any problems with it, unlike my iPhones."Kira Steber, of Summit Hill, is making the switch away from Apple."Had enough of Apple," she said. "Trading mine in for a Galaxy S5."Apple's new iPhones come in gold, silver and space gray, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 costs $199, $299 and $399 for 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB of storage space respectively. The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus costs $100 at each level of space. Both sets of prices are contingent on a two-year contract.By comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch screen and the Note 4 checks in at 5.7 inches. One of the most talked about features of both phones is the "Apple Pay" service. Users connect a credit card to their phone and tap the device to a checkout terminal to make mobile payments. With Apple coming out with a new phone, or phones, every year, some people are not so quick to upgrade."Why upgrade when my phone works just fine," said Susan Dengler, of Kunkletown. "No need to spend the money just to say I have the new phone."Kristie Turner, of Lansford, concurred, noting that she's only had the iPhone 5C for a few months.Nationwide, response to the phones has been positive and Apple has reported record-breaking pre-order numbers.Over four million advance orders were placed for the phones in the first 24 hours of their availability, according to an Associated Press article. By contrast, two million pre-orders came in for the iPhone 5 during the same time period in 2012. Apple didn't calculate first-day orders for last year's iPhone 5c and 5s.Tracy Mikolawski has had an iPhone since "day one" and has already pre-ordered the latest version."I'm getting the iPhone6 Plus, 128 GB, in gray," she said. "I've never had a problem with any of the iPhones."With phones hitting the retail shelves Friday, it figures to be a busy day for local stores."We have had a lot of interest and inquiries on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus since the pre-order launch this past Friday," said Amanda Behler, of Pencor Wireless. "We expect that both of our locations, Palmerton and Walnutport, will see an increase in store activity this Friday with the official launch of the phones in our stores. For the customers who took advantage of last week's pre-order, those devices are expected to start shipping this Friday."Count Cheryl Brinker Hudicka, of Palmerton, among those who will be upgrading."I'm getting one of the new phones," she said. "I love my iPhone."
