Chemical spill cleaned up

Cleanup crews responded Thursday morning to a chemical spill at a Parryville business.

A chemical release was contained with the action of several fire departments until the cleanup crews arrived.The chemicals used to clean trucks leaked onto the site of Savage Trucking on Rock Hill Road and into the Lehigh Canal.It occurred after a tote that contained 300 gallons of the product was discovered leaking and half of the contents had flowed out.Parryville and Bowmanstown fire departments responded to the scene.Volunteers deployed booms and dikes until the state Department of Environmental Protection Agency and state Environmental Protection Agency arrived.The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission was also deployed to the scene.Savage Trucking is responsible for remediation, county officials said.
