A Tamaqua woman faces charges of theft and receiving stolen property after she took a laptop computer from her estranged husband's house, Lansford police say.

Star Murphy, 22, of 62 Hunter St., Apt. B, faces a preliminary hearing at 3:15 p.m. Oct. 1 before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Jason Helmer, here's what happened:Joseph Murphy contacted police on July 23, saying Star Murphy had come to his house in Lansford to retrieve some belongings. After she left, he discovered the computer, a Hewlett Packard Pavilion worth about $1,000, which he was repairing for another person, was missing. On Aug. 16, Helmer received a complaint from the computer's owner about the stolen computer. The owner said she had given the computer to Joseph Murphy on June 9 so he could fix it. Murphy told her that Star Murphy had taken it. Helmer called Star Murphy, who admitted taking the computer. She said she sent it back to the owner via United Parcel Service in the first week of August.Star Murphy told Helmer the owner had given the computer to her and Joseph Murphy. She described it as a "paperweight" because it didn't work.Helmer asked if she had any paperwork to prove she shipped the computer. She said she did not, but would get documentation. However, Helmer never received the paperwork. He spoke with the owner on Aug. 21, and she told him she never got the computer back and wanted to press charges against Star Murphy. Charges were filed Aug. 28 with Kosciolek, and Star Murphy was sent a summons.
