Penn-Kidder Library Center opens to a new chapter

One day a couple of years ago, Barbara Franzosa sat in a restaurant in Pine Point Plaza in Albrightsville, and mentioned to the owner how much she missed the public library near her former home.

"Two people at other tables said, we miss our libraries, too. So I said, well, should we try to start one? And they said yes," she said.On Saturday, after years of planning and hard work, the Penn-Kidder Library Center opened in its new home next to Mauch Chunk Bank in the plaza, on Route 903 near the intersection Route 534."This is like a dream come true," Franzosa said as people streamed into the comfortable rooms.Until recently, the library was housed in a narrow trailer about 150 feet from the new location. The library, which includes a craft area for children, both adult and children's sections, a quiet reading room, and gently used jewelry and used books for sale, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and also from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.See Tuesday's Times News for a full story.
