Car-motorcycle crash kills biker on Hometown Hill

Police are on scene investigating a collision between a car and a motorcycle that took the life of the motorcyclist on Route 309 near Tamaqua.

Emergency responders from Rush Township and Tamaqua initially were summoned by a Schuylkill Communications Center dispatch at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a collision in which the motorcyclist suffered amputation.

Arriving at the scene, responders issued a call to summon a medical airlift service and preparations were being made to set up a helicopter landing zone at the intersection of Route 54 and 309.

However, while those arrangements were underway, the victim died and a coroner was summoned.

Traffic is backed up in both directions on Route 309 between Tamaqua and Hometown, along with Route 54 both eastbound and westbound in Hometown, and at Taggartsville Road near Tamaqua.

Additional details when they become available.
