Woman who had sex with teen gets prison sentence

A Carbon County woman who had sex with a teenage boy was sentenced to a county prison term on Thursday in the county court.

Brandice A. Boner, 34, of Lansford, was sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika to serve nine to 18 months on a charge of corruption of a minor, a felony.Because the charge falls under the provisions of Megan's Law, Boner must register as a sexual offender with the state police for the next 15 years. Boner previously pleaded guilty to the charge.Boner was arrested by Lansford police on June 7, 2013, after receiving a complaint from the mother of a 16-year-old boy that Boner had sexual relations with her son.Boner, who is the mother of four children and in a common-law marriage since 1996, was asked by Matika why she did it, and she responded, "I don't know." She added, "It won't happen again." Matika told her, "But you were the adult," adding she should have know better. The victim's mother told the court that her son had been dating Boner's daughter at the time. She said he is still troubled by the incident. In addition to the jail term, Boner was ordered to render 75 hours of community service when released on parole, supply a DNA sample, have no contact with the victim or his family, and get a mental health evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment. The state sexual assessment board conducted an evaluation and determined Boner was not a sexually violent predator. If she had been found to be one, the registration period would have been for life. She must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.Because of continued health problems and medical treatments scheduled for the next several weeks, Boner will not begin the jail term until 9 a.m. on Oct. 23.
