Couple to stand trial for not getting child dental care

Charges against a Danielsville area couple who are accused of failing to get dental care for their 6-year-old daughter must face the charges in Northampton County Court.

Kenneth Wanamaker Jr., 37, and Jessica Hoffman, 31, had hearings Tuesday before District Judge Robert Hawke of Cherryville.Hawke not only forwarded the charges to court, but increased the bail of Wanamaker from $40,000 to $75,000. Wanamaker, who had been free on the previous bail amount, couldn't post the new bail and was taken to Northampton County Prison.Hoffman remains free on 10 percent of $40,000 bail. Both are charged with endangering the welfare of children.Testifying at the hearing before Hawke was Dr. Eugene McGuire, a dentist who has treated the daughter. He said her tooth decay was so severe that the infection could have killed her.McGuire said 16 of the girl's 20 teeth were decayed. The girl was supposed to have surgery in March for the tooth decay, but the parents refused to take her for the treatment. The two were arrested on June 26. When arrested, the dentist told police this "is the worst case of dental disease" he has ever seen, according to the affidavit.McGuire told police that not only did the parents fail to keep the surgery appointment in March, but wouldn't reschedule it and hung up the phone on office personnel. The couple have three children.
