A member of Weissport Council said she personally visited a yard where the homeowner had complained earlier this month that his home and yard werecoated in potentially health-threatening dust from the bridge project.
Council Vice President Sue Pywar said she met with Robert Schaffer of J.D. Eckman, the contractor in charge of the multimillion-dollar rehabilitation of the McCall bridge, and they visited the home of William Hartzell, who said his home and yard were covered with the dangerous dust. They said they found no dust on the grass or bushes."Maybe it blew away," Pywar said. "I know I didn't see any dust."Weissport Council always discusses the bridge pro-ject at each town meeting.Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the first and third Monday of each month at the borough building. As part of the report, council President Gene Kershner said that while residents cannot get away from the noise, the bulk of the bridgework is nearly done.In other bridge-related discussion, Kershner said three parking spaces along Franklin Street near the Bridge Street intersection were eliminated during the detour, but cars park in those spots and should be towed.Attorney Mike Greek said council should not consider towing away someone's vehicle until the car has been ticketed.Council also discussed adopting an ordinance to lower speed limits on Franklin Street to make it safer for children using the playground.Council member Arland Moyer said a 15 mph sign is posted in the area, but it is not legal."We want to lower the speed limit, but we want it to be legal."Moyer said a previous ordinance limits speed to 25 mph in the borough.
