Retires from U.S. Army

Col. Brian Sneddon, son-in-law of Jane Springer of Tamaqua, retired from the United States Army after 27 years of military service in a ceremony held at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Sneddon, a graduate of East Stroudsburg University, entered active duty in 1987 with a Reserve Officer Training Corps Commission in the Infantry. He served as a platoon leader in the 24th Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia, where he was deployed to Desert Shield/Desert Storm.He commanded Delta Company, 1st Battalion-505th Parachute Infantry Regiment at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and had follow on assignments as a systems automation officer at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, MacDill Air Force Base Tampa, Florida and the 18th Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg.It was with the 18th Airborne Corps that Sneddon deployed twice for Operation Iraqi Freedom. His last assignment was with the United States Army Reserve Command, Fort Bragg, where he served as the Chief Information Officer.Col. Sneddon received numerous awards and badges over his tenure in the Army, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Valor, Army Achievement Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Canadian Jump Wings, Ranger Tab and several campaign ribbons.Col. Sneddon is married to the former Lisa Springer of Tamaqua.They have two sons; Matthew and Andrew.Matthew and his wife Jennifer are stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska.Andrew is a student at North Carolina State University, enrolled in the College of Engineering, computer science.
