Mom raises funds for school uniforms

While there are benefits to having a school dress code, it often poses difficulties for families who can't seem to find inexpensive yet good quality uniforms.

After a conversation with a friend regarding the topic, Ashlee Wildrick, a mother of two Panther Valley students, was inspired to help families in her area who struggle to purchase school clothes every year. Her efforts, which began about a month ago, included Wildrick knocking on doors throughout Lansford, asking for gently used uniforms and monetary donations. She also organized a bake sale, which she said raised the most money. In total, she raised $446. With it, Wildrick purchased new uniforms from Old Navy.On Tuesday, she held a clothing drive for anyone in need of school-approved clothing in the Panther Valley School District area. She hopes to begin fundraising for the 2015-2016 school year this October, with a goal of $1,000. A possible motorcycle ride or car wash is on the list of possibilities, Wildrick said. Her incentive is her compassion for families struggling financially."I've been there," she said. "It's the right thing to do to help people who are less fortunate."
