Nesquehoning fire crews battled a blaze Sunday afternoon after a piece of construction equipment caught fire.

Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1, Hauto and New Columbus fire departments responded to the call at Panther Creek Power Operating LLC, on Dennison Road, just after 4 p.m.By the time crews arrived, the 2005 Model 180 Volvo front end loader, which had been operated by a Panther Creek employee, was fully engulfed.Nesquehoning Fire Chief John McArdle said that reports were that the operator, later identified by Nesquehoning police as John Krynock, noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, but as the fire grew in intensity, he was forced to jump to safety.Krynock sustained minor injuries.McArdle added that due to the extensive damage of the vehicle, it is impossible to tell the exact cause of the fire.

Nesquehoning Police and Ambulance also responded to the incident.
