Route 209 project to begin Aug. 11

A micro-surface project on a stretch of Route 209 in Franklin and Towamensing townships is set to begin Aug. 11, according to PennDOT.

The $277,572 contract, awarded to Suit-Kote Corporation of Pittsburgh, stipulates travel lanes will not be affected between 6 and 9 a.m. or 3 to 7 p.m."The contractor is planning to micro-surface between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and perform line painting for several hours at night after 7," said Ron Young, PennDOT district press officer. "They do not plan to work weekends unless they get some rainy days during the week. The micro-surfacing/line painting work is anticipated to take one week to complete."Micro-surfacing involves the application of a thin layer of blacktop mixture to an existing roadway. Young said the work will provide several years of additional life to the existing pavement.Crews began a weeklong process of removing pavement markings on Wednesday.
