Illegal parking ends in drug charge

An illegally parked vehicle on April 4 sparked an investigation that led to marijuana charges against a Saylorsburg man, according to Mahoning Township police.

Anthony Heller told police he parked the car, which had an expired inspection sticker, along Mahoning Heights Road shortly after 11 p.m. because he needed to borrow a screwdriver from a friend.During the investigation, however, police discovered Heller had been visiting a girl in the neighborhood without the permission of her parents. Around 12:45 a.m., police stopped Heller and searched his vehicle, finding a burnt piece of paper containing marijuana.Charges against Heller include possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
