Rare bobbin lace collection on loan

A one-month showing of the exquisite art of bobbin lacemaking and its cultural heritage concluded its run Friday at gallery windows and display cases of the Tamaqua Public Library.

The rare collection included dozens of samples of varied lacemaking handiwork from around the world, spanning the period from 1840 to the 1930s with a few present-day examples included as well.The collection is owned by genealogist Samantha Gibbons, Tamaqua, an aficionado of Victoriana. A few of the pieces were created by her ancestors.The display is now available to other appropriate venues, such as libraries, museums, storefronts and arts centers.More information is available by contacting Gibbons at
