Panthery Valley tops FT Canes

LANSFORD Both Panther Valley and Franklin Township had more time off than usual before their match up on Wednesday.

The Black Diamonds sure didn't look rusty and wasted no time jumping ahead of the Hurricanes.Panther Valley scored in the first three innings and never looked back as it posted a 6-2 victory.Nate Hrebik and Matt Buss each had an RBI in the first two innings to get the sticks going for Panther Valley. The early run support seemed to give Black Diamond starting pitcher Luke Stano the confidence he needed throughout the game."We're playing small ball and moving the runners around," said Panther Valley head coach Rich Evanko. "We got the lead for Luke and he did an excellent job for us on the mound. He had them hitting his pitches, he didn't walk anybody and he had excellent control today with a little more life on his fastball."The big shot came in the bottom of the third inning, as Panther Valley's clean up hitter Luke Stawick crushed a three-run bomb over the left field fence."We were aggressive at the plate and when we can get everyone here we can do some damage," Evanko said. "I would put our 3-4-5 hitters up against anybody's in the league. They're all patient and they don't' chase pitches out of the zone."Franklin Township head coach Dirk Pompa believes that the time off might have something to do with his team's lack of offense yesterday.Micciche and David Everitt delivered the two RBIs for the Hurricanes in the top of the fourth inning."It took a while for us to start rolling, but the bats never really came around," Pompa explained. "Colton Knox, Mike Catoldo, and Bryce Micciche all had nice hits that were encouraging for the team. It's tough with a few weeks off for us to get into a rhythm right away."Both teams have high expectations as they are coming off winning 2013 campaigns."I want the next person who takes the ball on the mound to push it even further," said Evanko. "You always want that competitive edge out there on the mound. I'm happy with what we're doing offensively right now and I hope we continue the strong offensive play.""I hope we play solid defense this year and that we keep our heads up even when we make mistakes. We are going to be playing a lot of games in a short amount of time and hopefully we can go into the playoffs on a little run."FT Hurricanes 000 200 0 - 2 3 1Black Diamonds 113 001 x - 6 8 1Pompa and Everitt; Stano and Buss.
