Two women admit to resisting arrest; other pleas are entered

Two women admitted to resisting arrest and entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court in separate incidents.

They were among a total of eight defendants to enter guilty pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Weatherly incidentJocelyn Helen Tiglio, 19, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of resisting arrest for an incident on Dec. 28, 2013, at her residence at 610 E. Main St.Borough police responded to the residence to a report of a female attempting suicide by cutting her wrists. On scene, police found Tiglio acting violently. She assaulted Officer George Keifer when he tried to calm her down. Police Chief Brian A. Makovchick arrived and assisted Keifer in getting Tiglio under control.Police learned that Tiglio had a history of mental health problems and had stopped taking her medications at the time of the incident.She spent 16 days in jail before being released on bail. She told Matika she was receiving counseling and is taking her medication and added, "I feel wonderful."Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a mental health evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Evelyns Sanchez, 23, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.She was arrested on Jan. 14 when Lansford police responded to West Abbott Street to a report of a theft. On scene, officers were told by Michael Smith that his girlfriend, Sanchez, had taken cash and credit cards belonging to him.Police found Sanchez a short distance away. She struggled with officers when they attempted to take her into custody.Matika told Sanchez that she got a break from prosecutors in the plea bargain, noting she had a prior felony conviction.Matika placed her on probation for 18 months on each count, running concurrently, and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance imposed on D&A use, and render 50 hours of community service.Other pleasSherry Phillips, 38, of Lansford, pleaded to two counts of retail theft in two separate incidents. Both counts are felony threes.She admitted entering the Family Dollar Store, 700 E. Patterson St., Lansford, on March 11, 2013, and taking items valued at $33.35. She also admitted going into Boyer's Market, 500 W. Bertsch St., Lansford, on May 6, 2013, and taking items, with no value listed. All the items taken in both incidents were recovered.Phillips recently served a four-month prison term for a probation violation, it was noted.Phillips admitted to a drug abuse problem but told Matika she was attending counseling sessions regularly and has been "clean" for over a year.Matika placed her on probation for two years on each count, running concurrently, and ordered her to render 100 hours of community service, get a D&A evaluation, supply a DNA sample, and stay out of the two stores during the duration of her sentence.Brian Priest, 32, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of criminal conspiracy-retail theft. He was arrested on July 16, 2013, by Mahoning Township police for an incident at the Walmart store. Taken were items valued at $150.Priest is currently an inmate at the state correctional institution at Camp Hill serving a two-and-a-half to five-year term imposed by Lackawanna County court.Matika went along with a plea agreement and sentenced Priest to serve two to 24 months in a state prison, concurrent with his Lackawanna sentence.Jason Michael Seekins, 37, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of persistent disorderly conduct.He was arrested on Sept. 26, 2013, at the Family Dollar Store, 700 E. Patterson St., Lansford. Police responded to a retail theft report in which Seekins was charged with taking $13.52 worth of merchandise. A retail theft count was dropped in a plea bargain.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he render 50 hours of community service and must stay out of the store for the duration of the sentence.Jeffrey John Dolinsky, 50, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence. He was arrested on Nov. 3, 2013, along North Lehigh Gorge Drive in Lehigh Township by state police at Hazleton. Given a test, the result was 0.32 BAC.Matika deferred sentencing so Dolinsky could apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program. He is facing a mandatory 90 days in jail.Heather Lynn Loar, 27, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of DUI. She was arrested on Jan. 17 at Patterson and Tunnel streets, by Lansford police. Given a test, the result was 0.22 BAC and also the presence of a controlled substance.It was noted she has two pending DUI charges in Schuylkill County.Matika sentenced her to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.She begins the jail term at noon on June 27.Ronald S. Mudrick, 76, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of DUI. He was arrested on Jan. 27 along Ashtown Drive, in Mahoning Township, by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result was 0.15 BAC.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs, which average about $1,000, and pay a $50-per-month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
