Eldred gets extension on school

Eldred Township isn't giving up on acquiring Eldred Elementary School.

Thursday morning after the Eldred supervisors' meeting, Eldred supervisor Chairman Gretchen Gannon Pettit called Carole Geary, Pleasant Valley School District's superintendent, to let her know that Eldred was turning down the district's generous offer to sell it to Eldred for $1 because of the June 5 deadline that didn't allow for due diligence on the township's end.So Geary offered an extension deadline of one month.Eldred's supervisors are working on getting a study, ask for public opinion and maybe petitions. They have a public meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., Monday, June 23 at the township municipal meeting."We are working on finding out what the people want," said Eldred supervisor/secretary Sharon Solt. "Then at the July 2 meeting we should be making an informed decision."Solt has learned that Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has expressed an interest in either moving to the Eldred school or Polk school, which will close at the end of this school year next Friday.St. Matthew's UCC's Pastor Suzanne Brooks-Cope, interim PVEN director, has set up a tour of both schools for PVEN. Eldred supervisors will also be included in the Eldred tour."We are moving forward," Solt said.
