Businessman's needs prompt council to appoint members to Municipal Authority

A potential business owner in Weissport is attempting to open a Laundromat in the former Reed's Market.

Jay Frey, who purchased the sprawling building on the corner of Bridge and White streets, said he was contacted by Tim Rehrig, who told him that he needs to provide the amount of water he plans to use to Weissport Municipal Authority before his plans can move forward.Frey said he came to council for direction because he wasn't sure what to do. At a previous council meeting, he said he had been directed to check with the borough engineer."I need to weigh my options as to should I get washers that use 26 gallons a load or should I get the washers which use 11 gallons?" he said."Of course the washers that use less water cost a lot more, but I have to weigh those costs against the cost of a grinder pump."Frey also said he has contacted the engineer about curbing."I had hoped to begin work by July," he said.Council Vice President Sue Pywar suggested that he attend the next Weissport Municipal Authority meeting at 6:30 p.m. on June 11.However, that would be a problem, since there is only one member on the authority and he is presently out of town.Later in the meeting, attorney Greg Mousseau, solicitor for authority came into the meeting. He noted that Rehrig was not involved in the authority.Pywar said that it was hard for anyone to agree to join the authority because there was no one to show them the ropes."Well, Tim is gone," said Mousseau. "And I can tell you that the authority is financially sound."Mousseau said that it was important to fill the positions, at least temporarily so that Rehrig can turn over the keys, cellphone and laptop and allow the authority to move forward.Upon his advice, Pywar made a motion to appoint Pete Pywar and Arland Moyer to the authority. The motion was seconded by Paulette Watson and then a majority of council approved the motion.Moyer abstained from voting since he is a member of council.
